About

Who am I? Well, for now I’m going to keep this blog anonymous, but I’m a thirty-ish year old medical school student.  Medicine will be a second career for me.  I’ve worked for a number years as a consultant in computers.  Personally, I’m in to cooking and sports.  Most of all, I am a husband to a very loving and supporting (and beautiful) wife.  She’s been a huge part of this process from support to encouragement to advice.

What is this? This blog will serve a few purposes.  First off, I thought it would be cool to document a bottom up view to the process of attending medical school with the end result of obviously becoming a doctor.  I also want to look back and reflect on the application process as well as the preparation that got me to this point.  Secondly, I’m hoping this blog will serve as a journal and help keep myself centered while providing myself some perspective through reflection about the process.

Where? Well, you can follow me here on the blog or using the RSS feeds to the right.  There are also a number of social media websites where I am posting information either directly from the blog or to supplement posts here, also to the right.

Why? As I was pursuing my undergraduate work in preparation for my application to medical school, I found that after six months or so I was loosing focus.  To help regain some of that focus and explore my interest, I began blogging as a means of keeping a journal.  This blog would also serve to let friends and family know what I was working on and how I was doing.  When I got accepted to medical school, I restarted the blog and took it public (sort of) to hopefully reach an audience of people interested in medical school.

I love science.  I love helping people.  I love feeling like I’m able to help people.  I love finding small victories.  I love professional life.  I would love to own my own business.  These loves and so much more will make great fodder for a blog.

When? This process started in 2006 when I started seriously considering a career change.  The process led me to consider medicine and the decision came the following December.  I started my post-bacc classes the next August.  In 2008, I took the MCAT and started the application process.  As of this August, I have matriculated into the Class of 2013.
